Aliens vs Predator: Requiem Review

This movie absolutely sucks.

Aliens vs Predator: Requiem is truly the sequel that nobody wanted but got. The film was released in 2007 and was the directorial debut of visual effects artists Colin and Greg Strause, who also directed Skyline in 2010. Two of the worst movies in the past ten years. The film starts right where the first one left off with the Predalien emerging from the dead predator. The Predalien causes a pod on the ship to crash on earth in Colorado and kills the predators on board. Facehuggers that are captive on the pod escape and start to impregnate people. First off, predators wouldn’t be stupid enough to keep facehuggers on their ship knowing how dangerous they are. This is one of countless plot holes in this poorly written piece of trash movie. After one of the predators sends a distress signal, a single predator is sent to clean up the problem and sending just one predator to handle the problem also doesn’t make sense.

The film doesn’t really have a plot after the first few minutes. The rest of the movie is the aliens, Predalien and predator causing havoc in a small town with characters we care nothing about. The main character is pizza delivery boy (Johnny Lewis) who has a crush on a hot blonde girl (Kristen Hager). That pretty much shows how awful this movie is. From Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch and Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley to a pizza boy. The acting, writing, dialouge, production, visual effects and cinematography are all dreadful. People die and you don’t care at all. Aliens emerge from people’s chests and it means nothing. To this day the alien bursting out in the original film is one of the most chilling scenes ever, but carries zero weight when it happens in the movie.

The once terrifying Xenomorphs are reduced to cannon fodder for the predator, humans and yes even the damn pizza boy kills them. Impossible to kill for future marines, but no problem for a pizza boy from Colorado. It goes without saying that the creatures look awful. The Xenomorphs and facehuggers look like total crap. That is if you can even see them at times. The lighting of the movie is so awful. You can’t tell what is going on in a number of scenes. The film steals scenes and lines from both franchises. A guy named Dallas (Steven Pasquale) says, “Get to the chopper,” and it sounds as awful as you would think. Every recycled slasher movie cliché is thrown into this film that has more in common with Freddy vs Jason than any Predator or Alien film.

The worst part of the film might be that it tries to setup a sequel at the ending of the movie. This film was clearly an attempt at a cash grab and it’s a travesty it was ever made. The film is garbage and amazingly might be worse than Alien: Resurrection. Don’t ever see this movie. One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.
