Wonder Woman has been doing great critically and commercially! Earlier this week, the movie became the highest grossing DC Extended Universe film domestically. Today our Amazon Princess has helped the universe reach a new landmark.
Last year, Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which introduced us to Diana Prince, not only showed us the first live action crossover of the trinity, but also made the franchise reach beyond $1 billion in the box office. Later that year, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad drove the series into the $2 billion territory, and today Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman featuring Gal Gadot as the Princess of Themyscira has pushed the DCEU past $3 billion worldwide, an impressive number considering that it’s only the fourth installment in the universe.
Man of Steel earned $668 million worldwide, while Batman v Superman took home over $873 million and Suicide Squad managed $745 million. Wonder Woman currently sits at just under $714 million.
Wonder Woman’s critical reception and box office success may have potentially increased hype for Snyder’s Justice League, which sees the world’s finest heroes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg uniting for the first time in live action. Whether that movie could push the DCEU past $4 billion is something that remains to be seen, though it has a very great chance now. Let’s hope for the best!
Wonder Woman currently plays at theaters worldwide.
