Rumored Nightwatch Film, Sony Eyeing Spike Lee To Direct

In the news leading up to the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, many speculated that Nightwatch was going to appear. When I first heard this, I was intrigued, as I had never heard of the character. In the comics, Dr. Kevin Trench saw Nightwatch be killed by invisible adversaries, and when he unmasked him, he found his older self. Trench took on the mantle, and therefore is caught in a time loop, yet utilizes time travel to prevent what he saw take place that night.

Now there is a rumor that not only is Nightwatch getting his own solo film, but Spike Lee is attached to direct. This was mentioned in a recent episode of Meet the Movie Press. Looking at his filmography, the only one that could come close to a comic book film is the crime thriller Inside Man which although I haven’t seen, I have heard of. On the other hand, the writer of the Now You See Me films (some of my favorite films), Edward Ricourt, is rumored to be working on the script.

Knowing Spike Lee’s a big name in directing and Ricourt’s done widely enjoyed writing makes me excited to see an adaptation of a character I don’t know much about. It’s also supposed to be in the Sony spin-off universe, so it will be interesting to see how this character interacts with the others we’re awaiting to see be adapted.

What do you think about this rumor? Do you know anything about the character? Do you think these possible choices for writer and director are ideal? Let us know and and follow us @GeekMotivation on Twitter for more news like this.
