Ever since the Guardians Of The Galaxy debuted in the MCU, Rocket Raccoon has quickly become a fan favorite character. The character is created with CGI and voiced by Bradley Cooper. His sarcastic humor, intelligence and relationship with Groot are some of the most praised parts of the first film. We have seen very little of his origin and now director James Gunn has confirmed that we will learn about his past soon. Recently, the director appeared at Hasbro HasCon and spoke about the Guardians and the future of the characters. He was asked about Rocket’s origins and if we would ever see it on screen in the future. Here’s what he said:
As you know, the MCU is one way of processing this characters. 616 is a different one. We are going to learn about where Rocket comes from in the coming sagas. It’s going to be a little different from the comics. We already know a lot about where he came from. It’s a little bit horrible than what it is the comics when you come down to it. We will learn more about it.
Sounds like we are getting a very dark origin of Rocket. James Gunn has defended changing the characters from the comics and looks like he won’t stop doing that. The movies have told us that Rocket was experimented on to increase his intelligence and strength, but the reasons were not told. Gunn seems like he already has an idea of how Rocket will most likely become a plot line. Perhaps we will see his origins in a Marvel One-Shot, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 or even a solo movie. A solo movie won’t be surprising considering he has his own series of comics. Personally I am very excited to see his origins but I do wish we get a solo movie on Yondu where we see him raising young Peter.
We will see Rocket next year in Avengers: Infinity War.
