As Colin Trevorrow exited the untitled Star Wars Episode IX, the director’s chair was up for grabs. After a week of fans being unsure who will take over the film, we now have an answer. The man who brought Star Wars back with the New Trilogy, J.J. Abrams is set to both write and direct the highly anticipated blockbuster.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy gave a statement on the decision to bring Abrams back into the fold. In this statement, she said, “With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy.”
Set to release to the big screen on May 25, 2019, details of this film are extremely scarce. Star Wars: The Last Jedi forces its way into theaters December 15, 2017.
