Two weeks ago, Spider-Man: Homecoming crossed 800m at the box office and outgrossed Wonder Woman. Today it has outgrossed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to become the highest grossing superhero movie of the year.Spider-Man: Homecoming was recently released in China and this gave the film a huge push to take the top spot. The total box office number of the movie is $874 million.
Here’s the box office numbers for other superhero movies this year:
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – $864m
Wonder Woman – $819m
Logan – $616m
The Lego Batman Movie – $312m
And here’s how Homecoming ranks among the Spider-Man movies:
1. Spider-Man 3 – $890m
2. Spider-Man: Homecoming – $874m
3. Spider-Man – $821m
4. Spider-Man 2 – $783m
5. The Amazing Spider-Man – $757m
6. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – $708m
As of now, Homecoming is the 4th highest grossing movie of the year behind Beauty and The Beast, The Fate of the Furious, and Despicable Me 3.
It is also worth mentioning that Homecoming surpassed last year’s superhero film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, globally by a small margin, which earned $873m at the box office.
Maybe Justice League and Thor: Ragnarok will out-gross it to become the highest grossing movie? We have to wait and see.
