Earlier this month, 20th Century Fox was looking to sell a vast majority of its company to Disney. Now, other companies are apparently hoping to join in on this deal.
According to Variety, Sony Pictures Entertainment has joined the list of companies seeking to take control. However, Sony will most possibly look at a “select group of assets rather than the entire company.” Comcast and Verizon have also shown interest. Fox has made no comment, but is “willing to listen to potential sale options that would have been unthinkable just a year ago.”
The Murdochs–the people with firm control over Fox–will need to make a huge decision and a life-changing one at that. This will be a choice that will change the course of history for humankind. If the company is sold to Disney, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four will once in a long time be joining the likes of the Avengers on the big screen. What are your thoughts? Of course, this is what we (the fans) all want, but at what cost? When Sony made negotiations with Disney in late-2014/early-2015 over the rights of Spider-Man, future plans for the Amazing Spider-Man franchise were ceased and canceled. This meant that Sinister Six would never come to fruition.
If Fox were to make this decision, Donald Glover’s Deadpool animated series and the planned X-Force project might be canceled. Do you think this could happen? Let us know! Follow Geek Motivation on Twitter (@GEEKMOTIVATION) and Instagram (@geekmotivation).
